The difference is legal standing, not quality. A sworn translation carries the stamp and signature of a translator appointed by decree of Indonesia's Ministry of Law — courts, ministries, embassies, and universities abroad accept it as an official document. A regular translation is linguistically just as rigorous, but it has no legal force.
The rule of thumb: if a government body, court, campus, or embassy will read it, you almost certainly need sworn. Birth certificates, diplomas, notarial deeds, court documents — sworn. Internal reports, websites, manuals, marketing copy — regular is enough, and cheaper.
Not sure? At Nusalexia we check your document and destination country for free before you order, so you never pay for a stamp you don't need — or get rejected for missing one. Standard personal documents are done in 1–2 working days.
